Six hundred horses and then some

617 hp.
0-60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds.
Top speed of 216 miles per hour.

Those specs may even go up depending on which automotive authority you put your faith in.

It consumes 3.15 miles per gallon at a minimum speed of 200 mph, and has a as tank capacity of 25.9 gallons.

The Mercedes McLaren SLR can reach the moon in under 47 days. Theoretically, that is, under the following conditions:

  • Escape velocity (from the earth's gravitational pull) isn't a factor.
  • The fuel tank is topped-up every 81 miles, which takes about 3 minutes.
  • There are about 2,949 fuel stations spaced evenly between the earth and the moon.
  • You don't get lost.
  • You're not a troll, and you don't take driving to the moon literally.

Maybe, just maybe, you'll get there faster if you take a green one.

Further diversity

Time to diversify a bit further, both in scale and in brand.

Siku, which is seeing a revival in my part of the woods, came up with this beauty - the Porsche 911 Carrera S - in 1:50-scale.

The overall casting is fairly decent - opening doors, glass (i.e. plastic) head and tail lights, and nice tampos around. The Porsche badge on the bonnet could've been smaller though.

A little lick of paint on the window trims, side mirrors, front turn lights, front bumper grills, wheels, and everything's a bit better from the stock cast that came straight off the pegs:
